Choose the correct Thermostat for the job.
by G&S Mechanical:
We get many inquiries as to what thermostat one should choose for your home or business. With emphasis on repair not replacement.
For the ultimate in control and reliability I recommend the Honeywell 7300 This marvel will do automatic changeover and doesn't run the equipment any more that it absolutely has to. It features a remote sensor capability so the thermostat can be located in the boiler room, machine room or closet where it won't be tampered with or damaged. It is rather expensive (about $300-600 installed). But it is worth the price.![]()
For home or commercial use at a lower cost I recommend the White-Rogers 80 series on Conventional systems.
For fancier systems the White-Rogers 97 series has multiple outputs and other features like auto change-over, programmable fan and intelligent recovery. But none will beat the honeywell 7300 for fine control and fuel savings.
For home heat pump use the Hunter Fan 44428 has two auxiliary heat outputs W1 and W2. Allowing a system with two or three sets of heating elements to be broken up for energy savings.
One caveat and electronic thermostat will NOT save you much money if you are home all the time and you leave the temperature the same all the time. I recommend using a conventional thermostat for maximum reliability.
