There are hundreds of heating and air conditioning contractors in the united states right now who will service or replace your equipment. unfortunately we have found that 90% of them will repair your equipment by telling you that you need to replace it. Others will tell you that you should purchase a service contract with them to protect your heating or cooling equipment. Here are some of the major problems with this.
Most utility company and contractor service contracts cover only small items under $50. They usually do not cover major items such as: compressors, motors, furnace heat exchangers, gas valves and any major item These are the very items that you probably need your contract to cover. Service contracts should not be confused with maintenance contracts where your equipment is actually serviced to make sure it is working properly.
Utility companies are very good at collecting your money and giving you a false sense of security. Utility companies and fuel companies are in the business of selling fuel and energy. Larger HVAC companies have huge 'fancy fleets of trucks' to maintain. Most service technicians are on sales commission. This means that they get paid to sell you new equipment as opposed to working on it and fixing it.
Many units replaced have either nothing wrong or something very simple that can be easily corrected at minimal cost.
The small HVAC company doesn't have the fleet of fancy trucks or the sales force. He must make his living on word of mouth and good quality work. The small company mechanic must have good well rounded knowledge to repair and service existing equipment. Where as installation of new units requires little skill.
We here at G&S mechanical will try are very best to get your equipment fixed at a minimal cost and replaced only when necessary. We can modify your equipment to perform better than it did when it was new or to use less fuel to do so.
